Greater Boston Flute Association Releases 24-page Magazine

The Gazette  expands its format and presents new features and columns

Woburn, MA – Friday, March 4, 2005 — GBFA, a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting the greater Boston flute community, today announced that it has released a 24-page expanded format magazine, The Gazette, delivering more information, new columns, and extended-length feature articles, plus two inserts.

“The old gazette newsletter format could not accommodate the type of content we wanted to offer our members,” said Elizabeth Watson, the organization’s president—“and our approach has quickly evolved the newsletter into a magazine. We want our publication to be a good read. Simply mailing out a newsletter with mentions of events and such doesn’t seem worthy of our mission. Besides, our website and Important UPdates weblink have proven to be a much better way for our members to get time-sensitive information.”

The Gazette includes the feature story How the Meditative Approach of Shakuhachi Can Invigorate Your Flute Playing, Reflections On the 2004 Flute Fair, An Update from BSO’s Elizabeth Rowe, three other informative articles, and more. This February ’05 issue also introduces several new columns: The Pro File (for the more advanced player), Students & Parents Corner, The Quizzical Flute, Member Profile, New England Flute News, and The Music Box (where new releases, CD reviews, and music-listening topics are discussed).

Mission Statement

Greater Boston Flute Association is committed to achieving, through diverse and innovative programming, collaboration among all who have a passion for the flute. Our mission is to utilize the flute as a means of celebrating our humanity, and to present cultural and educational opportunities for flutists and other interested community members.
